The Power of a Prayer Chain

20131031-133540.jpg

Man if you want news to spread, get on a prayer chain!! Lol. I completely believe in the power of prayer and in Gods miracle touch, I’m not being sacrilegious here. We had received some news the other day regarding our daughter and we were keeping it on the down low because well…..we didn’t want a social media blitz and we hadn’t even had time to tell our relatives that are scattered further than right here in the community….one set of grandparents (the ex in laws for instance) had no clue as yet and I was going to wait to tell them until we had all the news. One or two family members though, with no malice of course, placed my daughter on their (huge) church prayer email chains.

This morning, I had so many messages and questions finally just made a public post……how many of you have had this happen??

The tendency here in our rural community is that as the news passes ear to ear it grows in gravity and I fully expect that by tonight many will be planning an unnecessary funeral hahahaha. God bless them though as long as they pray for her, the God of all mercies knows exactly her name and all her needs.

Dear Friends,

I have received several messages regarding a prayer request this morning. I want to reply to everyone, but truly I couldn’t find the time to answer all of them.

Yes they did find a mass in my little Brookelynn’s mandible. At this point we pretty much KNOW with all certainty that this is NOT cancer. She will have to have some special CT scans in the next couple weeks and it is a definite that surgery is in the near future. How major or minor that surgery is will depend upon exactly what this mass is. I know that when one receives the “news” that someone has a mass or tumor in their body it is the tendency that people begin to immediately ask questions. I appreciate all of your concern! And certainly we hope you will pray for it to be a minor surgery and not a major one.

Alarm Clocks

So goes the life of the LEO Wife

5:00 am alarm- aka ah dude I’m just kiddin you don’t really have to get up but u need to start mentally preparing for it

5:09 am alarm- aka dude don’t forget you’re supp to be waking up ok?

5:18 am alarm- ok dude no kidding…this is your last snooze attempt so roll over stretch and start telling yourself it’s time to get up

5:27 am alarm aka. GET UP MAKE LIKE A BULL IN A CHINA SHOP, JUMP IN THE SHOWER AND SHAVE , EVERY LIGHT IN THE MASTER BEDROOM ON, THROW ON UR BULLETPROOF VEST, UNIFORM, MAKE COFFEE ON THE FLY, THROW ON UR BOOTS AND KISS YOUR WIFE GOODBYE

TODAY, we had the added pleasure of 2 more alarms……

At 405 dispatch called requesting hubby to come in early…….cue 5 ALARM STATUS GO GO GO

GET UP MAKE LIKE A BULL IN A CHINA SHOP, JUMP IN THE SHOWER SHAVE, EVERY LIGHT IN THE MASTER BEDROOM ON, THROW ON UR BULLETPROOF VEST, UNIFORM, MAKE COFFEE ON THE FLY, THROW ON UR BOOTS AND KISS YOUR WIFE GOODBYE

FOLLOWED BY THE 4:20 hahha nevermind we found someone else to do it call…….aka the your wife says heck forget it I’m gettin up bc in 30 mins all your other alarms are going off anyway.

So today…if ya get pulled over, or even just see a cop (or his wife…yawwwn) in passing …show a little mercy and lots of respect bc WE LIVE A VERY HARD LIFE. 12-16 hour shifts on GOOD DAYS and more like 24 hours a day in times of disaster.

In December 09 during the huge snow storm (and a few times since) …..hubby pulled 3 days without coming home at all, he slept at his PD and worked 16 hour shifts (and the only time i heard from him was as i listened to the handheld he left me for emergencies bc I too was trapped w no elec, only emergency kerosene heater and. 2 babies……I would turn it on intermittently just to hear his voice bc it was very distressing especially at night,,,,, there were so many trapped and so many in homes w no heat no electricity and in dire need of being evacuated (even the natl guard were here working with them). That storm laid 2-3 inches of ice and then dumped 30+ inches of snow down in less than 5 or 6 hours on a totally unprepared region. In the rural mountainous area we reside, homes were without electricity in certain areas from December 19- FEBRUARY 10!!!!

I live in midtown and was without power for 11 days…….6 of which hubby worked in 3 day stretches with no means to communicate with us other than us just being able to hear him over that little handheld….and we couldn’t speak back only just hear him answering calls.

Sat down with Anthony Lapaglia…..

So tonight at dinner we had the great privilege to speak with Jenna Elffman, Patrick Wilson, Whoopi Goldberg and Anthony Lapaglia. They’re here in our area filming the movie Big stone gap…..all along I have said I would not take a photograph, I only wanted toSPEAK to them…..and tonight God granted favor beyond comparison…….so instead of photos with movie stars, it just so happens that one of our little patients we worked so hard to help was our waiter and HE is the photograph I choose to show……forget movie stars who will forget my name as soon as they walk out the door, give me the patient whose face lights up when he sees me, the one who remembers me and never forgets the help extended when he was most desperately in need……click the pics for the stories and the photo 😉

It takes a very brave soul

20131026-221242.jpg

Oh I admire you, it takes such a very brave soul to homeschool!! I could never do it myself though, my children would never listen to me!!

I wouldn’t say bravery is the issue here, I wouldn’t really say I have more patience than others, I wouldn’t even say that I am “such a good mommy”. What would I say? A few things actually.

I’m not brave. I wouldn’t even say I am strong minded, nor would I call myself disciplined. I don’t have loads of patience (I don’t sound or act like a Duggar). I would not even consider myself an exceptional mom.

So….what makes me so different than them?? Why am I able to homeschool children and have an end result of well behaved and hardworking children?? Why do my children love to read and often read more than one thousand pages in just a few days?? Write this down……because if you’re a newbie, a parent considering, or even just a public school parent watching in awe, here are the secrets.

1. I don’t make them sit at a desk or table or even in a chair

20131026-221340.jpg

2. I don’t have lesson plans or standards to meet or consider myself failed
3. I am not trying to meet the common core standards of learning
4. I don’t freak out if we skip a day

5. I don’t freak out if are behind in one subject (or even if it were all of them)

WHY??

Children are not miniature adults, they don’t require desks or cubicles…..they need freedom to explore. I don’t need lesson plans because my children are naturally curious (and so are yours believe me) so they will naturally question and explore the world and learn from it. I’m not trying to meet common core standards because thus far, we are by far exceeding everything they have to offer. I don’t freak out over missing a day because even on my worst day, it’s still better than anything the public school can offer. I don’t flip of we are behind in writing, because they’re excelling in everything else.

In short, no I am not brave…..

Entrusting your child’s education to complete strangers who tie them to desks, confine them within 4 walls, expect them to learn more from books than from experience, and require them to read about everyone else’s experiences, experiments, and adventures instead of having/doing their own…..is a concept so foreign, so unreasonable to me that I just can’t fathom it……so no, I’m not brave, I just happen to think I am a way better caregiver/teacher/protector thn any government employee will ever be.
