Where could one go to get a pen pal for their child? Any recommendations of a homeschool pen pal program?
I think it’s common knowledge with my readers (maybe not with the new ones) that I have a child with a learning disability. He is not profoundly impaired it seems simple when you hear really…..he has an auditory processing and language processing issue. That means that sometimes he hears one word (or inserts his own own word when you’re speaking to quickly) when you said another. It also means that he has difficulty writing creatively (I have no idea why) and with grammar when it’s written (but not when he’s reading it out loud for some reason). It’s almost like a dysgraphia but his letters aren’t all over the page, although his spelling is at times atrocious.
The most concerning issue is NOT the spelling or grammar, it is how do you teach a kid to write creatively? When you ask him to think up his own story and write it down……it’s like you’ve asked him to pull his toenails off with pliers….I’m not kidding he is miserable. He wants to write well, he’s embarrassed that he can’t. His 8 yo sister is brilliant and the only thing holding him back is this writing and language issue. He has a decent vocabulary, he’s very smart…..it’s just creativity and writing.
All that said, someone help me please I need a recommendation! He loves life of Fred math….I know they offer language arts but it’s at the high school level. G is 10yo. Anybody have any input?
I have been quiet lately because I’ve been traveling (as usual)……it seems this blog slips my mind until those moments something happens and I feel like I need to chronicle it. I wanted to share some photos from our travels, maybe it will inspire you to go to some of the places we frequent. So, as I pack my bags once again (this time we are leaving the country again) I will upload them.
Let me take a moment though before I do that to tell you how much I enjoy your comments and sharing this journey we call life with you all. I wish you blessings and peace and all things wonderful this year and here’s hoping you catch the travel bug and do something you’ve never done before (like hop a plane across the big pond, or a ship to the islands).
Here are just a few pix snapped by me this year on all our travels ❤
I do….occasionally and it always shocks me.
When I have a dream that causes me to have strong feelings that make me have to get up and pray……I write that dream down.
My last premonition dream, regarded the tornado that ripped through the school in the Midwest. In my dream I hovered over two children hiding them in a brick building. On my notebook I wrote the following
“Mass fatalities, to the west, children
along with the date and time I had the dream. I’ve only experienced this a few times maybe once or twice a year ( the USS Cole was another news event time) and it really disturbs me. I wonder if occasionally God allows me to have them so that I will pray for these upcoming situations even though I never grasp them in full until they come to pass.
Has this ever happened to you? Please tell me about it.
Regarding David moving The Ark of the Covenant. David had built a brand new wagon to bring the Ark over on, we are told of how the wagon was rolling along when suddenly it hit a bump in the road and Uzzah reached out to keep it from falling off said wagon. Uzzah was struck dead…… I know right? Here was a guy, just helping his king get the Ark over to his home city, it hits a bump he reaches out to steady it and BOOM he’s struck dead. How sad right? So here is the point:
David, along with pretty much EVERYONE else knew that The Ark of the Covenant….had a few rules. Rule 1: DON’T TOUCH IT. Rule 2: When ya move it…place rods made of wood through the hooks/loops on the sides of the ark….CARRY IT YOURSELF….no cheating..no ox-carts.
So ya see….The Ark of the Covenant, should never have been on that ox cart to begin with….even though it was brand new and made especially for moving it. The Ark, should have been carried physically.
Application to YOU, my homeschooling cohorts?
God has called you out to homeschool, don’t place that calling on an ox cart and try to let the ox pulling it do all the work. You’re gonna have to CARRY THIS BURDEN….it’s not going to be fun all of the time, its not going to be easy all of the time. So whatdya do? Ya do what David did, when he FINALLY did the RIGHT thing and went back down to the house of Obed Edom to retrieve the Ark. You’re gonna carry it as far as you can, and when you get to that part you can’t carry it through, You’re gonna kneel down and make a sacrifice to God. You’re going to recognize that those first 6 steps are hard work, but that 7th step is one ONLY God can take. The key is, when you get that calling home you’re going to get the blessings described by passages regarding Obed Edom….so carry on, and don’t give up!
